BMW works drivers make good start into 24-hour race.Jörg Müller and Augusto Farfus, who contest the World Touring Car Championship for BMW Team Germany, have made a promising start into their endurance-racing adventure. The 2008 Nürburgring 24-Hour Race is underway. |

| On Saturday and Sunday, Müller and Farfus are racing a BMW 320d entered by Schubert Motorsport in the classic event held on the Nürburgring’s legendary Nordschleife. Together with their team-mates Stian Sørlie and Fredrik Ekblom, they delivered in fine style during the course of the event’s first hours.
In the qualifying on Friday, Müller had lapped the circuit in 9:39.309 minutes, thus clocking the fastest qualifying time of the four drivers. With this lap, car number 261 secured 47th position on the grid – and was the quickest in the category S1 for diesel vehicles. While numerous favourites encountered technical problems in the opening stages of the race, Müller gained several positions right away. With 20 laps on the arguably most demanding track on the globe contested, Müller/Farfus/Ekblom/Sørlie already had worked their way up to 18th position in the overall standings. For Farfus, gaining Nordschleife experience in this appearance at the Nürburgring will be the most important goal. Müller, however, has already demonstrated that he knows how to succeed in this marathon event: in 2004, he secured victory at the wheel of a BMW M3 GTR, and in the 2005 edition he finished runner-up. |
