| One-two in Montreal, pole position in Bahrain and 135 World Championship points: in the 2008 Formula One season, the BMW Sauber F1 Team once again delivered in outstanding style and achieved its ambitious goals. The highlight of the season was Robert Kubica’s triumph in the Canadian Grand Prix, with Nick Heidfeld adding to this memorable weekend by finishing runner-up. Next year, the Munich and Hinwil-based squad wants to be a serious factor in the battle for the World Championship title. BMW failed to secure its fourth consecutive World Touring Car Championship title. However, the BMW national teams can look back on a successful season nevertheless: Six of the 2008 season races were won by BMW drivers and in total, BMW secured 24 podiums to finish runner-up in the Manufacturers’ Championship, while Andy Priaulx came fourth in the battle for the drivers’ title – thus being the best-placed BMW driver. Meanwhile, the Formula BMW World Final held in Mexico City represented the motor racing year’s concluding highlight. The event was won by Alexander Rossi who secured the chance of participating in a test for the BMW Sauber F1 Team with this success. Earlier in the season, Rossi had clinched the Formula BMW Americas title. Esteban Gutiérrez is the maiden Formula BMW Europe overall winner, while the Formula BMW Pacific crown was won by Ross Jamison. In the forthcoming season, BMW supporters can once again look forward to witnessing exciting motor racing in Formula One, the World Touring Car Championship and the three international Formula BMW series. Furthermore, the new racing version of the BMW M3 is to compete in the American Le Mans Series. So look forward to another season featuring thrilling races, enthralling overtaking manoeuvres and beaming winners all around the world. |
