Holzer wins maiden Formula BMW World Final.

With his victory in Bahrain in December 2005, Marco Holzer became the first winner of the Formula BMW World Final. The spectacular event delivered exciting race action and some remarkable driving performances.

“I cannot find the words to describe how I feel at the moment," said Holzer after crossing the finish line at the "Bahrain International Circuit" and securing his triumph in the Formula BMW World Final.

“I came to Bahrain and my goal was to finish in the top ten. I have won every race I competed in and now I have the opportunity to test the BMW Sauber F1 Team car! This result is unbelievable and I have realised the greatest dream of my life. I just want to thank my team and BMW for making this dream come true,” said the delighted winner.

Exciting heats and a spectacular final race entertained the crowds, with Holzer being forced to fight hard right up to the very end. Two safety car periods provided additional excitement, the second of which developed into a nightmare for Nicolas Hülkenberg, the long-time race leader. Instead of equalling the speed of the safety car before it left the track, the leader decided to brake and was consequently punished with a ten-second penalty for this breach of regulations. At the end of the day, Hülkenberg finished in third position.

The trio of drivers that had been able to open up a consistently growing gap to their rivals was completed by Sebastien Buemi, who managed to secure second place.

Next to the Formula BMW action on the track, the fans in Bahrain witnessed an exciting support programme. Unique BMW race cars like the BMW M3 GTR or the BMW V12 LMR entertained the crowds in the desert emirate.
