2006 review: Looking forward to Formula One test.

In November 2006, the Formula BMW talents competed for victory in the second edition of the prestigious World Final in Valencia. Christian Vietoris experienced a race weekend without mistakes and was able to celebrate a triumphant victory.

Vietoris was the dominating man over the course of the the second Formula BMW World Final weekend, which this time took place at the "Circuit de la Comunitat". The German had already laid the groundwork for his success in the intermediate heats, securing pole position for the race on Sunday. In the final race he produced a start-finish victory, finishing ahead of his fellow Formula BMW Germany competitors, Mika Mäki and Stefano Coletti, who finished second and third respectively.

“I’m very proud of this weekend," commented BMW Motorsport Director Mario Theissen. "We have seen exciting racing action on the track. Despite 36 cars taking part in the final race, there were just a few accidents and off-track moments. All the drivers were able to give a great account of what they have learned in Formula BMW."

With this win, Vietoris not only crowned his championship title in the Formula BMW Germany, but also took an important step towards the future. As the winner of the World Final, he has the opportunity of conducting a Formula One test with the BMW Sauber F1 Team in 2007, when the World Final returns to Valencia.

Alessandro Zanardi, on the other hand, celebrated a spectacular comeback at the wheel of an F1 racer in Valencia. The Italian, who had lost both of his legs in an accident in 2001, completed several laps in the specially modified BMW Sauber F1 Team car, writing another chapter of motor racing history.
