Development.

"Development of the racing version trailed that of the series production vehicle by mere weeks,” says BMW Motorsport Director Mario Theissen about the evolution of the BMW 320si WTCC. “The basic concept, which serves the 320si so well, provides a superb platform for a car designed specifically for the race track.” The 40-odd engineers charged with developing the WTCC version succeeded in improving the car’s driving dynamics to suit the characteristics of the world championship. Particular attention was paid to adapting the rear axle to cope with the demands of competition, whilst the experts also concentrated on reducing the weight of the car. The overriding consideration, though, was ensuring the safety of the driver. The BMW 3 Series has proven itself an outstandingly safe car, and the BMW 320si raises the bar even further. This applies equally to active and passive safety.
